How to Incorporate Yoga into Your Daily Routine

Everybody knows this: You want to start a new habit, and in the beginning, you are doing really great. But after a while, you start to neglect your newfound routine, and eventually, you forget about it. Building new and healthy habits can be a really challenging thing. Even starting your own consistent Yoga routine can be troublesome.

Don't worry, though! In this blog, I will teach you how to start a Yoga routine and stick with it!

Start small: When you are highly motivated to start something new, it's easy to set big goals like, "I want to do 90 minutes of Yoga every day!" This is a really great thing worth striving for! However, I would recommend starting with smaller goals because once you fail to reach your goal of a 90-minute daily Yoga practice, it's easy to get discouraged and give up. It makes way more sense to set smaller goals and routines that help you get to where you want to be eventually. Ninety minutes can be really intimidating. It takes a lot of energy to bring yourself to get up and do the work when you know you HAVE to do a long session now. Commitments this big make it really difficult to feel accomplished, and where's the fun in that? Don't get me wrong: I want you to have big goals in your life! And I want you to go for them! However, we have to be smart about it and develop effective strategies for reaching these goals.

So start off by going for 10 minutes of daily Yoga every morning, for example. The hurdle to start practicing for 10 minutes is way smaller than going for a full hour and a half Yoga routine. And once you've started your short practice, you can add a couple of minutes if you feel like it. Even if you don't add any extra minutes, you will still feel accomplished since you have reached your daily goal! Trick your mind into feeling accomplished and reach your goals!

Create a new space: For a lot of people, it is helpful to create a specific space for their practice. Build a "Yoga Corner" in your room or go to your favorite spot in the nearby park and make it your Yoga Space. Just use this space for Yoga, nothing else. After a while, your brain and body will associate this place with Yoga. This helps you get into the right mindset for your practice as soon as you enter your special Yoga Space. To create your Yoga Corner at home, you can use incense, decorations, props, music, plants, etc. Be creative and make it as inviting as possible. Make sure you feel comfortable in YOUR space.

Become more aware: You can practice Yoga on and off the mat. Make it a part of your daily life. Become more present by bringing more awareness into your life. Instead of playing music while sitting on the subway, listen to the sounds around you. Observe your surroundings. Watch your breath. Stay curious and see what you can discover.

Remember, starting and sticking to a Yoga routine is a journey. It's okay to have days where you feel less motivated or don't have as much time. The key is to be consistent and keep coming back to your practice. Start small, create a dedicated space, and cultivate awareness in your daily life. With time and commitment, you'll find yourself flowing effortlessly through your Yoga routine and reaping the many benefits it brings to your body and mind. So, roll out that mat, take a deep breath, and embark on your Yoga journey. Namaste!
